How to Garnish Egg Salad Pasta Salad

Garnishing a deviled egg pasta salad can add an extra layer of visual appeal and flavor to the dish. Here are some garnishing ideas to consider:

Chopped Fresh Herbs.Sprinkle chopped fresh herbs like parsley, chives, dill, or cilantro over the top of the pasta salad. Not only do they add color, but they also provide a burst of fresh flavor.

Paprika or Smoked Paprika.A sprinkle of paprika or smoked paprika can add a touch of color and a subtle smoky flavor that complements the deviled egg theme.

Sliced Radishes.Thinly sliced radishes can bring a refreshing crunch and a pop of color to the pasta salad.

Extra Chopped Hard-Boiled Eggs.Reserve a few extra hard-boiled eggs, peel them and chop them finely or slice them into thin slices, and places them on top of the pasta salad. This reinforces the deviled egg theme and adds texture.

Thinly Sliced Green Onions.Sliced green onions (scallions) provide a mild onion flavor and a nice green color contrast.

Tips & Variations for Making Pasta Salad

Don’t overcook the pasta. It is important to not overcook the pasta. Cook just until al dente and then drain them and then cool the pasta in the strainer with cold water until all of the pasta is cooled. This will prevent a soggy pasta salad.

Cool the pasta completely.Just like over-cooking pasta will give you a mushy pasta salad, so will noodles that are not cooled all the way. As soon as they are done cooking you want to shock the pasta with cold water to stop the cooking process.

Let the pasta salad sit before serving. You can serve this pasta salad immediately after making it however I find pasta salad is best when it has time to sit in the fridge and all of the flavors are able to mix together. Letting the pasta salad sit for a few hours before serving results in a more flavorful and delicious Italian pasta salad!

Add mustard. If you are a fan of mustard in your deviled eggs then you can add some yellow mustard or Dijon mustard to your pasta salad.

Add more veggies. If you want to you can add chopped celery, dill pickles, or even sweet pickle relish. You can change out the white onion for red onion.

Give it a kick. If you want to add a bit of spice to it you can add a dash of hot sauce or some cayenne pepper, when adding the spice to it to your preferred taste.

What is the best pasta to use for pasta salad?

Deviled egg pasta salad is a unique and flavorful dish that combines the elements of classic deviled eggs and pasta salad. When choosing the type of pasta to use, you’ll want to select a variety that can hold up well to the creamy dressing and other ingredients while providing a good texture and bite. I personally like to use elbow macaroni but there are other pasta options that work well for deviled egg pasta salad:

Elbow Macaroni.Elbow macaroni is a popular choice for pasta salads due to its small size and sturdy shape, which can hold the dressing and other ingredients effectively.

Rotini.Rotini pasta’s spiral shape not only holds the dressing well but also captures the flavors of the ingredients. It adds a visually appealing texture to the salad.

Farfalle (Bowtie).Farfalle pasta is another excellent option. Its bowtie shape adds an elegant touch to the salad, and its structure holds up well to creamy dressings.

Cavatappi.Cavatappi is a spiral-shaped pasta that looks like corkscrews. It’s great for trapping bits of dressing and other ingredients, ensuring a flavorful bite in every spoonful.

Gemelli.Gemelli pasta is twisted and braided, making it a visually interesting choice for pasta salads. Its shape allows it to hold onto the dressing and other components nicely.

Penne.Penne pasta is tube-shaped with angled ends, which can capture and hold the dressing and other ingredients effectively.

Rotelle (Wagon Wheels).Rotelle pasta resembles small wagon wheels, and its shape can help catch the flavors of the deviled egg-inspired dressing and other add-ins.
