LCM Song Of The Day: ‘I Hope I’m Stoned (When Jesus Takes Me Home) - Charlie Worsham ft OCMS

One thing we love about Country music is the great titles and wide ranging subject matter. Our featured track today is a catchy and clever bluegrass collaboration between Charlie Worsham and the Old Crow Medicine Show. We think it has the feel of the ‘O Brother Where Art Thou’ soundtrack.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Dust In A Baggie’ - Billy Strings

We have some wonderful bluegrass today from Nashville based Billy Strings and his band. This live version of ‘Dust In A Baggie’ is taken from a live Our Vinyl Session’ filmed at the Starstruck studios in Nashville. The song is taken from their 2016 self-titled EP. The band feature William Apostol (Billy Strings) , Billy Failing, Royal Masat and Jarrod Walker.

Poised to take bluegrass in bold new directions, singer/songwriter/guitarist Billy Strings is quickly gaining attention for his incendiary live performances and imbuing his take on Americana with distinctive bursts of psychedelic virtuosity. While deeply reverent of the roots of traditional bluegrass music, which his father shared with him as a boy, Strings learned his high-energy performing skills by playing fleet-fingered guitar solos in a heavy metal band in his native Michigan. While he has matured as a player, singer and songwriter in his own right, and re-embraced the music his father introduced him to, Strings has applied the intensity of heavy metal to bluegrass. The end results, as demonstrated on his most recent release, ‘Turmoil & Tinfoil’, provide a fresh jolt to the genre. Look for a new album from Billy Strings this fall.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Odyssey’ - The Accidentals

We have been closely following the progress of this wonderful multi-award winning young Michigan based trio for a number of years now. We are thrilled to report that they are crossing the pond for a number of UK gigs. Their London gig is at the Windmill Brixton on May 13th. We rate Katie Larson, Savannah Buist, and Michael Dause very highly, so we would love you to support them. As a taster our LCM featured track today is the title track of their latest album ‘Odyssey’.

Named among Yahoo Music’s “Top 10 Bands to Watch in 2017,” The Accidentals’ adventure began in their hometown of Traverse City, MI, when Larson, a sophom*ore cellist, and Buist, a junior violinist, were paired for a high school orchestra event. The gifted young musicians became fast friends and before long, band mates. Having both grown up in musical families with professional pianists for fathers and vocalists for mothers, their shared influences bounced between classical, jazz, bluegrass, country, alt-rock, and the obscure.

Dubbing themselves after the musical notes that fall outside of a key signature, The Accidentals recorded and released a pair of independent albums in 2012 and 2013, the latter funded by a hugely successful Kickstarter. Their original songs revealed a band with wide-ranging influences but always true to their orchestral roots. National applause and attention followed, as did acclaimed collaborations with some fellow local artists and independent filmmakers. Other career highlights included scoring arrangements for a 75-piece orchestra to accompany them on their original songs as well as arranging pieces for an opera/dance production with Jennifer and Ryan Lott (Son Lux).

The past five years have seen The Accidentals perform over a thousand live shows, including headline dates, festival sets, and shared stages along such diverse acts as Keller Williams, Martin Sexton, Brandi Carlile, Andrew Bird, The Wailers, Joan Baez, and others. 2015 saw the band embark on their first full-scale national tour. Their SXSW debut saw them hailed by Billboard Magazine for “displaying a genre-hopping range of influences and some smart songwriting skills to go with their abundant musical chops.”

LCM Song of the Day: ‘The Woods and Fields’ - Paper Wings

We head to the West Coast today to meet the up and coming old-time bluegrass and folk duo of Emily Mann and Wilhelmina Frankzerda better known as Paper Wings. Our LCM featured track today is an original song ‘The Wood and Fields’ taken from their forthcoming second album ‘Clementine’ due for release on May 14th.

Paper Wings captivates their listeners with a sound that is delicate, powerful, and refreshingly intimate. The stunning vocal blend of Emily Mann and Wilhelmina Frankzerda soars over a rotating cast of banjo, guitar, and fiddles. These two blossoming songwriters have a distinctive way of weaving traditional Appalachian music in to their thoughtfully crafted songs leaving you feeling nostalgic and exhilarated. They are both exceptionally accomplished multi-instrumentalists, and walk the line between vibrant originality and a deep care for traditional music and its history. They are the 2018 recipients of "A Good Idea" fund from Australian Folk-Pop duo Oh Pep! to sponsor a week dedicated to songwriting. Paper Wings released their self-titled debut album in 2017.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Rocket Man’ - Mile Twelve

After playing their first London date at the much loved Green Note last night, our next LCM featured artists are the excellent Boston based multi award winning Bluegrass band Mile Twelve. Their wonderful encore song was the iconic Elton classic ‘Rocket Man’. Mile Twelve’s highly anticipated latest album ‘City On A Hill’ is set for release on the 29th March and we have added a link below for you to pre-order..

If you missed them yesterday in London, they have promised to return soon. They also still have four further dates on their UK tour if you would like to catch them in Lowestoft, Spalding, Selby and Saltaire.

Although their sound is rooted in traditional bluegrass, Mile Twelve surveys a broader landscape on their newest album, ‘City on a Hill’. All five band members bring their own influences and observations into the music, resulting in a project that feels contemporary, thoughtfully crafted, and relevant. Produced by Bryan Sutton and engineered by Ben Surratt, ‘City on a Hill’ follows significant recognition from the bluegrass community, including three IBMA Momentum Awards. With members based in Boston and Nashville, the lineup includes David Benedict (mandolin), Catherine “BB” Bowness (banjo), Bronwyn Keith-Hynes (fiddle), Evan Murphy (acoustic guitar, lead vocals), and Nate Sabat (bass, lead vocals).

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Set Me Free’ - Jaywalkers

We head to the North West today to meet the wonderful and fast rising young Americana, Bluegrass and Folk trio the Jaywalkers. The band features Jay Bradberry (fiddle, vocals, guitar), Michael Giverin (mandolin, guitar, harmony vocals) and Lucille (bass, harmony vocals). We really like this catchy live version of ‘Set Me Free’ filmed in Chester last year. It’s taken from their latest album ‘Time to Save the World’ released in November.

If you would like to see the Jaywalkers live in London they will be performing at the Green Note on July 20th.

Over the last few years, Jaywalkers have cemented their place as one of the most exciting, virtuosic and entertaining young bands working on the British Acoustic Music scene. Effortlessly creating a unique sound based on their collective and individual musical backgrounds, the band takes influence from Folk, Bluegrass, Country and Western Swing music in the form of virtuosic instrumentals, three part harmony and impressive slap bass. Add good humour, tasteful arrangements and exceptional musicianship to the mix and they are guaranteed to put a smile on your face…. The music Jaywalkers create is innovative, rooted deeply in tradition, and exhilarating.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Long Hard Road’ - NewTown

We head to Lexington, Kentucky today to meet our next LCM featured artists Americana and Bluegrass band NewTown. They have been described as ‘The spirit of Alison Krauss meets the soul of Sturgill Simpson’. Our featured track is a great cover of a Tyler Childers song ‘Long Hard Road’.

Jr. Williams comments “This is one of the coolest tunes Tyler Childers has written. It speaks about the hardship of a long-distance relationship, something I’m sure a lot of folks can connect with. The video for the song was such a joy to make, surrounded by a few close friends and family. We used The Burl in Lexington, Kentucky, for the shoot — a beautiful venue! We hope people will enjoy the labor we put into this; we think it was well worth it. Enjoy!!

NewTown features five artists demonstrating a vast array of acoustic music styling. Based out of Lexington, Kentucky, NewTown accurately cites their obvious local musical influences. The band is able to journey into a realm of their own while still maintaining the spirit of the legendary bluegrass and “Newgrass” sounds created within the walls of Lexington’s Red Slipper Lounge during the mid 70’s.

The band was started by Kati Penn, a talented fiddle player and vocalist from Frankfort, Kentucky. Kati is unique in her ability to lead a band while maintaining the philosophy of a band of equal parts. Jr Williams complements his wife, Kati, with amazing high harmony and lead vocals along with persistently tasteful banjo and guitar playing. Together, the band blends their vastly different musical influences to deliver a sound of their own. NewTown creates their sound as a cohesive musical unit with a tangible diversity to which all listeners can relate.

LCM Song of the Day: ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ - Thunder and Rain

We head to Golden, Colorado today to meet the multi ward winning Bluegrass, Country and Roots band Thunder and Rain. We really like this live Bluegrass cover of ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ originally released by Guns ‘N Roses.

Thunder & Rain are a Colorado based band specializing in Mountain Made Colorado Country.

If you would like to see the band live they will be on a UK tour in early March with their London date at the Green Note, Camden on the 10th March.

Erinn Lukes was raised on the sunny shores of Southern California, where she started playing open mics at 16. She then attended to her lingual talents, receiving a BA in Italian. As a powerful and expressive vocalist, she has performed her original songs at venues from Rome to New York City to Seattle. When she isn't showcasing her talent, she is busy fostering the growth of pre-school children.

Ian Haegele hails from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, where he began playing upright bass in high school, studying both orchestral and jazz music. He moved out to Boulder, CO in 2010 to get his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance on the bass at the CU College of Music, graduating in 2014. After moving, Ian fell in love with the Front Range acoustic music scene and the beauty of the Colorado mountains. He joined Thunder & Rain in the spring of 2014.

Chris Herbst grew up in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. His love of music started at a young age, when he became interested in 80's rock n roll. He then went on to get a BA in Jazz Guitar. He discovered bluegrass a little later in life and picked up the dobro. He then went on the perform with many Canadian bluegrass bands before a chance meeting with the folks of Thunder and Rain at the Coombs bluegrass festival in the summer od 2016 changed his course. He now resides in Golden, CO and loves to ski the high country and attend gypsy jazz jams.

Erinn and Pete met in Seattle as street performers at Pike Place Market. A chance meeting at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in September 2013 brought the full band together for the first time. They played their first show as Thunder & Rain at the Mountain Toad Brewery in Golden, CO.

In their brief tenure together as Thunder & Rain, the band has captured a sound that accentuates their talents and is accessible to fans both young and old. Thunder & Rain's depth and unforgettable melodies are putting meaning back into modern country music.
